In a welding shop at NAIT, the 15-year-old used the flame from a welding torch to cut out the shape of a cat from a thick piece of metal. After the ferrous feline was freed from the sheet, she lifted her protective helmet and inspected her creation. She says it’s the first time she’s ever worked with a tool like that.
“I like working with metal and hands-on jobs,” she said. “I just love the feeling of making something yourself and feeling very proud in that moment.”
Nendsa is one of about 200 students in grades 9-12 who came out for NAIT’s fourth Jill of All Trades event on Thursday. She and six of her peers came from École St. Patrick High School in Yellowknife for the event.
