BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Ferris State University’s College of Engineering Technology received high praise from hundreds of high school girls during the third annual Jill of All Trades event, as the young women were introduced or learned more about skilled professions through dozens of hands-on activities.
Ferris State is the first and only institution in Michigan to host the event. More than 100 students from surrounding school districts visited the main campus on Oct. 15 to gain a bit of real-world experience through Ferris State’s engineering tech programs.
CET Dean Kate O’Connor was nearly at a loss for words immediately after the event, as several high school girls approached her and event staff to emphasize how meaningful the opportunity was for them.
“It’s emotional to hear that this event had such an impact for these students,” O’Connor said. “What’s even greater is to see students from previous years who were excited to come back for another visit.”
